Illinois State Police said they have no record of Briggs reporting a stolen vehicle. They did say that Briggs placed a 9-1-1 call at around 4 a.m. Monday, after initially saying he did not call police until sometime between 8 a.m. and 9.
Analysis: The crash came after a turbulent offseason in which the Pro Bowl linebacker threatened to hold out - at first for the season, then 10 games - because the Bears placed the franchise player tag on him. He also asked the team to remove the label or trade him. Briggs ultimately accepted the one-year, $7.2 million franchise tender offer late last month, ending the drama.

May 18 3:57 PM PT4:57 PM MT5:57 PM CT6:57 PM ET-Briggs was a no-show as expected Friday when the Chicago Bears opened a three-day minicamp.
Analysis: In March, the Bears tagged Briggs as their franchise player, prompting him to threaten a holdout, at first for the entire season and then for 10 games so he could report for the final six to qualify as serving one year as a franchise player. "History tells me that players don't miss an entire football season," coach Lovie Smith said. "Lance is a part of us. We would like to have him here. Hopefully in time we'll get him back."

Analysis: The report also states, that both teams are expected to keep talking before the late April draft.
Mar. 31 3:23 PM PT4:23 PM MT5:23 PM CT6:23 PM ET-Bears general manager Jerry Angelo said he wants Briggs to return next season but a multiyear contract is unlikely. "I'm not ruling it out 100 percent, but in all probability, that's not likely to happen," Angelo said during the team's fan convention. The Pro Bowl linebacker has been at odds with the Bears since they slapped the franchise player tag on him in mid-February.
Analysis: Briggs threatened to sit out the season, but then agent Drew Rosenhaus said his client would sit out the first 10 games and report for the final six to qualify as serving one year as a franchise player. "I am now prepared to sit out the year if the Bears don't trade me or release me," Briggs said. "I've played my last snap for them. I'll never play another down for Chicago again."
Analysis: The Bears are expecting him to play with them this season, with a one-year, $7.2 million deal, the average of the top five salaries at his position. Briggs made $721,600 last season when he led the Bears with 117 solo tackles.

Analysis: Chicago has until July 16 to sign Briggs to a long-term deal or he can play for the tag number. He became upset after seeing the contract London Fletcher received from the Redskins that included a $10.5 million signing bonus.
Feb. 7 12:59 PM PT1:59 PM MT2:59 PM CT3:59 PM ET-Briggs will not appear in the Pro Bowl because of a left foot injury. This was supposed to be his second Pro Bowl appearance, but he was apparently injured during the Bears' 29-17 loss to the Colts last weekend. Briggs had a career-high 130 tackles and two interceptions this season. He'll be replaced by Tampa Bay linebacker Derrick Brooks.
