Illinois State Police said they have no record of Briggs reporting a stolen vehicle. They did say that Briggs placed a 9-1-1 call at around 4 a.m. Monday, after initially saying he did not call police until sometime between 8 a.m. and 9. Analysis: The crash came after a turbulent offseason in which the Pro Bowl linebacker threatened to hold out - at first for the season, then 10 games - because the Bears placed the franchise player tag on him. He also asked the team to remove the label or trade him. Briggs ultimately accepted the one-year, $7.2 million franchise tender offer late last month, ending the drama. |

Briggs spoke with police this morning and will talk with an investigator later today according to the Chicago Tribune. Analysis: Illinois State Police officials said the 2007 Roadster was discovered around 3:15 a.m. crashed into a light pole. "(The) registration comes back to Lance Briggs, however we don't know who was driving the car at the time," Master Sgt. Kyron St. Clair said. Police said it doesn't appear that anyone was injured in the crash. Whoever was behind the wheel of the car could face misdemeanor charges for improper lane usage and leaving the scene of the accident. |
